Leicester Market - Leicester

Outside lighting and CCTV

Initial contact was made by the market manager who required help with CCTV repairs and maintenance on the site. With 21 cameras in place for more than 10 years and minimal maintenance, there was plenty to do. We replaced cameras where necessary, including a new DVR, and repaired cameras where possible. With the system fully up and running the manager and security staff were very happy.

Shortly after completing the work on the CCTV there was a serious incident involving a vehicle on the site, which sadly resulted in a fatality. The Health and Safety Executive insisted that even before the investigation was concluded that the outside lighting around the site required vast improvement. They set a deadline for improvements to be made within four weeks. Failure to do so would result in a prevention order being imposed for the market to cease trading while work was carried out and the investigation was concluded. We liaised with multiple suppliers and manufacturers, created lighting designs and developed these into a full scheme quotation giving the market three options. Once the order was placed we ordered the lights and immediately began work to install nearly 500 metres of containment and wiring to supply the 56 lights required. The project was completed, certificated, and signed off 11 days ahead of schedule.

GP surgery – Leicester

Fixed wiring testing

After being let down by numerous contractors and large facilities management companies, this GP surgery had fallen behind on its Electrical Installation Condition Report Testing. As part of an NHS funded charity, pressure was put on the surgery staff to get on top of the necessary compliance paperwork. Following a quick chat and site visit, we explained the options for the required testing and provided a quotation the next day. This was quickly accepted and a date was agreed for work to commence. Unfortunately a poor standard of work and maintenance carried out in the building over the years, meant a number of repairs and improvements to keep the installation safe and up to date with current regulations was required. Sensitive to the nature of the business carried out in the building, we organised for the work to take place out of hours to minimize disruption and risk to the general public. On completion, a full certificate was issued to the client via email within 24 hours, to mark conclusion of the work. Since then we have continued to work with the surgery helping to complete a range of work including alarm repairs, improvements to outside lighting and the installation of a new door entry system.

Veterinary practice – Market Harborough

Complete interior and exterior LED lighting conversion, fixed wiring testing, portable appliance testing

After successfully completing a number of small jobs for the practice over a 12 month period, they were only too happy to ask us to carry out their portable appliance testing. Aware of the specialist equipment and the environment in which it is located, we have always taken great care to be careful and considerate around the building, something that other portable appliance testers may not be so able to do due to the “in and out” price per item business model.

Using our experience of completing small jobs and portable appliance testing, we suggested a few ways for the practice to save money on their electricity bills including a review of the efficiency of the heating and lighting. The current heating system was operating well and required minimal maintenance, however the lighting required frequent repairs and the external lighting was not performing at its best, providing minimal light in the darker winter evenings. After some discussion we provided a plan to replace the lighting throughout the practice over a period of time to minimize the initial outlay. Currently we are about 65% of the way through the project. Now, with lighting levels increased by over 30% in some areas, and energy consumption of the new lights being nearly 50% of the original lights, the business manager and practice partners are already very happy and benefitting from the results.

IT support company head office and call centre – Peterborough

Full maintenance package, data cabling throughout, and interior LED lighting conversion

The original contact from this client was an unusual one, with concerns over the unusually high energy consumption from the building, and inconclusive reports from other electrical contractors who were unable to provide any sensible plan to resolve this (most suggesting blindly replacing air conditioning units, IT equipment, lighting and water heaters until a result is seen), we were recommended by another client of ours. We arranged a meeting to discuss the issues, take a look around, and suggest a plan of action. Having good relationships with specialist companies, we have access to some very clever (and expensive) equipment. We quoted for the seven-day hire and implementation of energy logger equipment to get a true reading of the electricity consumption within the building. This clearly indicated when the majority of electricity was being consumed, and also when it was being consumed unknowingly. As it turned out, this was all the way through the night as air conditioning units were being left on, with energy spikes on the energy logger clearly showing this! Timers were installed to help forgetful employees and the business owner, keen to improve his energy consumption further, requested the installation of 36 LED panels in place of old fluorescent items. The energy efficient improvements meant the cost was recouped in less than 2.5 years.

Thanks to the successful completion of various projects which saw energy consumption reduced, lighting improved, and a few other small repairs completed, the customer was keen to carry on. To take the headache and stress of remembering to order contractors for other works such as, electrical testing, emergency lighting testing and maintenance, fire alarm testing and maintenance, intruder alarm testing and maintenance, this customer wanted to join our membership scheme, letting us take care of all the above and more. I’m starting to get the impression that this customer doesn’t want us to leave!

Moulding company – Leicestershire

Installation of power and data points around the site for connection of new time and attendance machines

We have carried out numerous jobs for this client, from lighting repairs in their offices, to installing multiple 3 phase supplies to new machinery. A recent job involved installing fused connection units and network points around the site, to enable connection to new time and attendance hardware being supplied and installed by a third party. Our point of contact at this business is a stickler for detail, and is hands-on in organising and coordinating works around the site. This happy relationship makes our job relatively simple and allows us to focus on producing the best quality work we can, resulting in this customer regularly coming back to us.

Print shop fitting company - Leicester

Refit of lighting, sockets and data to new reception area

After previously working with a builder to complete a renovation, we were asked to work on the commercial refit of a reception at a print, shop fitting, and design company, which had been attracted by our high standards, good knowledge of commercial electrical installations and equipment, and eye for some accent lighting to give that wow factor on entering the building.

We had an initial meeting with the owners of the business, before liaising solely with the builder to carry out the work. With the work completed, certificated and signed off by the customer, before we had left the building we were approached to book in repairs and replacements of lighting in their warehouse.

Mechanics garage – Market Harborough

Installation of LED lighting throughout, as well as regular portable appliance testing

The original call from this customer was regarding their lighting which was in need of improvement, both in output and in general safety. We assessed the needs of the garage, and confirmed the required lighting levels, before putting together a quotation for the work. This involved the installation of multiple fittings around the workshop at a lower height, to provide sufficient light to the area where technical work takes place on vehicles. A lot of commercial buildings will have high level lighting fitted which can be inadequate when vehicles are on lifts. This results in the light shining on the roof and not the engine area or wheels, where most of the work takes place.

Once complete we were very pleased to receive thanks and praise for the installation. We were asked about portable appliance testing, and following a short meeting, the garage owners decided to join our membership scheme taking away their need to organise, contact different companies, receive quotes, and book portable appliance testing each year. They also have the added benefit of a reduced labour rate for future works, and a reduced call out fee for any call outs during daytime hours.
